It will also be important to gather information regarding your medical history, current medications, allergies, treatments by other health care professionals, and any self-healing or self-care methods currently being used. Guided Imagery is a therapeutic process that facilitates working with the power of the imagination to bring about positive mental attitudes and outcomes and to activate inner healing. You will find guided imagery on my “Deep Relaxation” tape/CD, and I will use it as appropriate in a therapeutic session. In Interactive Imagery (also known as Integrative Imagery), I will first guide you through total body relaxation. The emphasis will always be on maintaining a safe, secure environment as we explore the issue you wish to pursue through images and conversation. Aromatherapy is making use of essential oils in a therapeutic way. They are distilled from plants, shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds and have been used since ancient times. Many oils (which, by the way, are non-greasy) can be applied directly to the skin, but most often are diffused in a diffuser. The oils have the ability to penetrate cell membranes and diffuse throughout blood and tissues, and directly stimulate both the limbic lobe and hypothalamus. Since these are our emotional centers, the oils can directly and profoundly affect the mind and body. The most important thing is to use organic therapeutic grade oils. I use Young Living Essential Oils, and may use aromatherapy as an adjunct to your imagery session |
